Enjoy the Magic of Autumn
Halloween has certainly changed over the years. For many of us, childhood memories were filled with homemade costumes, pumpkins, neighborhood fun, and playful imagination. Today, the season often feels more intense, with giant skeletons, frightening sounds, graphic displays, and decorations designed to shock or scare.
During a recent Inspiring Hope conversation with Sharon Hoffman and Scott Masciarelli, we found ourselves asking an important question: What energy are we choosing to create, invite, and amplify?
Scott offered a simple reminder: instead of dismissing something as “just Halloween,” notice how it actually makes you feel. We absorb sights, sounds, emotions, and environments every day, often without realizing their effect on us. Awareness helps us choose more consciously where we place our attention and what we welcome into our space.
Power of Intention
One of the strongest themes of our conversation was intention. There is a very different feeling between dressing up for fun, fantasy, and imagination and deliberately choosing something designed to frighten or shock. Scott encouraged us to consider the intention behind what we do and the impact it may have on ourselves and others.
Sharon brought another beautiful perspective through the tradition of the Day of the Dead, where loved ones and ancestors are remembered through photographs, meaningful objects, and celebration. Her comments reminded us that this season can also be a time of remembrance, gratitude, reflection, and honoring those who came before us.

Autumn Energy
These days, I find myself drawn more toward pumpkins, harvest decorations, colorful leaves, warm gatherings, and the beauty of autumn itself. There is already plenty of mystery and magic in the changing season without making fear the center of the experience.
When something feels heavy or uncomfortable, we can choose to shift our response. We might offer a prayer, imagine light washing over the situation, or redirect our attention toward something more positive. The technique matters less than the intention behind it.
Perhaps the invitation this Halloween is simply to become more intentional. Notice how things make you feel, choose what you welcome into your space, honor those who came before you, protect your peace, and bring more light wherever you go.
Enjoy the magic of autumn, and look up, stay positive, and be the light in someone’s day.
Autumn Blessings,
Lois
