Congratulations on the Spirit’s 10th year in publication and a 22-year journey together. Welcome to the new home of the Spirits of Amoskeag on our Lois Hermann website. We are thrilled to introduce the updated edition of the Spirits’ book—a project that has grown with each chapter of its own remarkable history and meaningful legacy.
The Spirits’ book was first written in fulfillment of a promise made to over 300 spirits. Back in 2003, when their voices made themselves known through mysterious accidents, they set a condition: share their story, and they would bring peace to their restless presence. We kept our word, and in 2015 their tale was finally told—a spiritual mystery interwoven with heartache, hope, and the journey of its creation.

We remain profoundly grateful for their fortitude and your continued interest in this historic mystery. So much has evolved since the book’s first publication, and we’re eager to share these updated stories with you.

Sadly, in 2019, a devastating warehouse fire claimed hundreds of the original copies we cherished. Yet even in loss, inspiration emerged. In a powerful team session, several brave, young spirits urged us to pursue a new direction, leading us to focus on the creation of our Chronicles of Hope series. Once the Chronicles project was complete, we returned to the Spirits of Amoskeag, enriching it with some fresh stories and insights that honor its legacy.
If you’re drawn to the intrigue of old mills, the allure of history and mystery, or the chill of a good ghost story, you’ll find this book compelling. It recounts the eerie experiences of mill workers, the accidents that scarred their lives, and the enduring enigma of their legacy. We also invite you to contribute your own stories and insights—perhaps together, we can further unravel the mystery of the Spirits of Amoskeag.
