Notes, Reflections & Wisdom from a Sacred Teaching
This month, as we honor our beloved animal companions, I want to share insights from a powerful webinar that my colleague and friend, Scott, attended.
The class focused on Animal Soul Contracts — the sacred agreements formed between humans and animals to support healing, growth, and evolution.
These notes and reflections are shared with gratitude and credit to Tammy Billups, the originator and teacher of this work, whose course explores the soul-level partnerships we form with our animals across time and lifetimes.
We Incarnate Together — On Purpose
One of the most profound teachings from this course is the understanding that people and animals incarnate together intentionally.
These relationships are not random. We are magnetized to one another to work on shared themes — often across multiple lifetimes — for mutual growth. “We come together for why we came together.”
Our animals walk beside us not only as companions, but as co-travelers on our soul journey.
Animals as Teachers and Mirrors
Animals lovingly nudge, trigger, and gently push us toward our deeper work. Their behaviors often illuminate what we are ready to heal — emotionally, energetically, and spiritually.
Instead of asking: “Why is my animal doing this?” Tammy invites a more powerful question: “How is this an opportunity for our mutual growth at the soul level?”
Animals are extraordinary mirrors. They reflect patterns, wounds, and opportunities for healing with honesty and grace.
Like Attracts Like
Just as with human relationships, the principle of like attracts like applies to our animals as well. Our energies are more than intertwined… they are entwined.
Animals may arrive with similar patterns to work through — not as burdens, but as shared lessons. This entanglement allows healing to occur simultaneously for both human and animal.
From Problems to Conscious Co-Creation
A central goal of animal soul contract work is to shift from: “What are the issues?”
to “How can we consciously co-create together?”
When we view our animals as partners and collaborators, the universe often brings signs, insights, and synchronicities to help us understand the deeper meaning of our relationship.
Seeing the partnership as sacred changes the entire dynamic.
Sacred Partnership in Service
An advanced level of animal soul contracts involves co-creating in service — for ourselves, for others, and for the planet. “Animals embrace being in sacred partnership with us.”
Examples include therapy animals, service animals, or pets who naturally step into roles that bring comfort and healing to humans. These animals often embrace their roles with ease, as if they have fulfilled them many times before.
Their service creates a ripple effect of healing far beyond the immediate relationship.
Animals and Our Life Purpose
Our animals frequently connect us to our life path — sometimes most clearly during moments of challenge or illness. “Our animals often connect us to our life purpose.”
Scott has a great story of how one beloved animal, Peppy, became one of his greatest teachers, and how another, Koya, arrived with a different joint mission. Each relationship carried its own unique soul agreement.

Perhaps the most beautiful teaching of all is this: “We come united to heal and evolve together.”
When we honor our animals as conscious partners rather than passive dependents, the relationship deepens. Healing expands. Awareness grows.
Our animals are not simply here for us — they are here with us.
With Gratitude
These teachings are shared with appreciation and respect for Tammy Billups, the originator of the Animal Soul Contracts work, and with thanks to Scott Masciarelli for bringing this wisdom into our community.
